Price points are prices at which demand for a given product stays relatively high. CharacteristicsIntroductory microeconomics depicts a demand curve as downward-sloping to the right and either linear or gently convex to the origin. The downwards slope generally holds, but the model of the curve is only piecewise true, as price surveys indicate that demand for a product is not a linear function of its price and not even a smooth function. Demand curves resemble a series of waves rather than a straight line. The diagram shows price points at the points labeled A, B, and C. When a vendor increases a price beyond a price point (say to a price slightly above price point B), sales volume decreases by an amount more than proportional to the price increase. This decrease in quantity-demanded more than offsets the additional revenue from the increased unit-price. As a result, total revenue (price multiplied by quantity-demanded), decreases when a firm raises its price beyond a price point. Technically, the price elasticity of demand is low (inelastic) at a price lower than the price point (steep section of the demand curve), and high (elastic) at a price higher than a price point (gently sloping part of the demand curve). Firms commonly set prices at existing price-points as a marketing strategy. From Wikipedia under the

Q. Lately, it seems that everyone in my office is pregnant and the first shower of many is coming up. What do you think is a good range for a baby gift? I do not associate with any of them outside of work (not even lunch) so while I want to give a gift, I don't want to go broke for people I barely know (especially when the company is laying off people). Asked by Mimi - Thu Feb 5 01:31:53 2009 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments A. I would say stay under $20. You can actually get a few things for that: a package of unisex onesies, bottles, receiving blankets. My Mom goes through the same thing at her work...constantly feeling obligated to buy gifts for people at work she doesn't care for. Did she get a gift for her first Grand-baby? Nope! My point is...get something small, but don't pull your hair out doing do. Answered by circa 1980 - Thu Feb 5 01:37:31 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Price points" |
