What type of Birth Certificate do you need to cross into Canada?
Q. I am planning on going across the USA border into British Columbia by car in a few weeks, but I'm not sure what type of birth certificates will be accepted. I know that they aren't requiring passports until June if you have a drivers license and a birth certificate, but can this birth certificate be any type, an original from birth at a hospital, or does it have to be a certified birth certificate? Thanks.

A. It needs to be the original or a certified copy you obtained from the govt office. it cannot be just a copy machine copy. Also it cannot be that keepsake" birth certificate with foot prints that is given to parents at the hospital...it must be the official govt produced birth certificate.

Is the student pilot certificate and medical certificate good for 3 years?
Q. In the far/aim the student pilot certificate is good for 2 years a 3rd class medical is good for 3 years if you are under 40. But my medical and student pilot certificate are both one document. So do they expire at different times or at the same time? The far/aim does not address this that I can find. Thanks!
Asked by Mower - Wed Oct 1 18:02:23 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Student pilot certificate is valid for 24 calendar months. 3rd class medical durations have just changed. If you are under 40 years of age, it is now valid for 60 calendar months (over 40 is still 24 calendar months) Although they are on the same document, they are independent of each other. On a side note, the new medical certificate duration rules are not even in the 2009 FAR/AIM. See the source link for more information.

How to safely remove a certificate which is laminated?
Q. I have laminated my degree certificate. I need to get attestation behind the degree certificate for visa purpose. I would like to know if there is any way by I can un-laminate my degree certificate without damaging it.
Asked by Arun Kumar - Mon May 14 12:26:04 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. If the plastic film has been pasted using heat or some adhesive (most of the lamination processes use one of them), I doubt whether you will be able to delaminate the same without damaging your degree. Try some organic solvent on a separate sheet of laminated paper and see whether you can dissolve the plastic film without damaging the paper.

A. Contact your local school district or state department of education about an alternative certification program. Alternate certification programs have different requirments depending upon the state and district. Some programs allow AC teachers to work in the classroom while taking the necessary education classes in the evenings. At the end of one year, you should be ready to take the necessary tests to earn your credentials.

A. I don't know. It may simply be a matter of what states choose to call it. I'd never heard the term "live birth certificate" until recently.

I want to order my brith certificate from an online service. How do I know if they are legit?
Q. I need my birth certificate and I found a whole bunch of websites that you can supposedly order the certificates through. I am wondering if these sites are legitimate, and if they offer real certified copies of the birth certificate. If they are legitimate, which sites are the best? Thank you everyone for answering so far. I have done my own investigating as well. I called the department responsible for birth records in the county of my birth. I asked them if these sites are legitimate and trustworthy. He said, absolutely and suggested vitalchek.com. The reason one would go through them vs. directly through the state is that they will ensure the certificate is shipped to me in 3-5 days vs. the normal waiting period of 12 days or more. … [cont.]

A. Your best bet would be to get your birth certificate from your state's vital records department rather than online, especially if you need one that is certified/notarized. Some online sites may charge you two or three times what it would cost to go through your state capital. Also, there are many places that won't accept a birth certificate unless it IS from a state agency. You would have to supply the date of birth, parents names, city and county, hospital (if known), child's name, and your relationship (if it is for you, you'd put "self"). I just checked on a couple websites, and they charge anywhere from $19.95 to $24.95 and above.

Q. I just turned 18 this past year and I plan to move to another city near by with a friend. My father wont allow it and he refuses to give me my old birth certificate and my mother passed away when I was 10.I don't have a driver's license/permit and I know that I'll be needing my certificate at one point. How should I go about getting a new birth certificate and can I being only 18?

A. You can start by inquiring at the hospital where you were born to see if they'll help you. If not, you may have to actually go to the sheriff and ask him to intervene with your father on your behalf. Seriously.

Who is premitted to pick up a death certificate?
Q. I need to know who all is allowed to pick up a death certificate, one of my friends. Died on Friday 02/29/2008 due to a fatal car accident, and her family has been contacted but because they never cared about her, they dont want to help bury her, The woman who basically opened her door for this girl, needs to know how to get her death certificate. She has her Social security card and her births certificate... Who is allowed to pick this up? Thanks to all and god bless.

A. Death certificates can, and have been, misused for identity theft.. thus they ARE NOT public documents. Whatever their personal feelings, her family is still legally her next of kin, and the only ones who are authorized to have that document. It is not clear how old she was.. so it isn't clear if they have any legal obligation for burial arrangements. The fact that someone else has her birth cert and ss card, does not change it.. legally, those should be returned to her family. These are horrible circumstances, and I am so sorry for your loss, and for the issues facing her friend. I am not sure how the mortuary is handling it.. if they did something illegal, the family could come back and cause problems for the mortician as well. … [cont.]

What value does a graduate certificate have in the job market?
Q. Obviously a master's degree is a much stronger degree, but does a graduate certificate hold any weight with finding employment? Is a graduate certificate mostly meant to compliment a master's degree or can it hold up on its own?
Asked by gimpyshake - Mon Sep 29 19:31:28 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It really all depends on your field and expertise. A graduate certificate in general business probably won't get you anywhere especially if you have no real world experience, but if it's specific such as Accounting or Information Systems it may be helpful.

What is the difference between a certificate and a degree?
Q. I know what a degree is, but as an example: I am going for a degree in Criminology - Forensics (Bachelor of Science). On their website, it says that there are certificates too. For example: Certificate in Drug/Alcohol studies. Then there is another section there just listed as a "study", that being "Peace and Conflict Stuides". Any help would be appreciated because I am very curious and want a good map to follow for my success.
Asked by 8008 - Wed Jun 24 15:17:06 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Certificate is a lower certification of knowledge on the particular field of study, it doesn' t normally award on its own professional or academic rights as a degree does. For instance you can have many certificates on legal fields of study, but only a law degree will award you the right to become a lawyer. The certificates will mean expertize or bonus you when applying for jobs.

What will i write in a certificate of authentication for paintings?
Q. I need a format on what to write in a certificate of authentication. This certificate will be given to my clients who purchased my paintings.
Asked by alfred galvez - Wed Nov 8 06:45:11 2006 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Artists don't really do that. If you sell through a gallery, they give the customer a receipt and charge tax on the sale. the fact that you signed the work is the "certificate of authenticity". You sign, date, put a "c" in a circle to indicate you retain the copyright and they can't reproduce it, and I also print my name under my signature and I put the location I painted it in--all on the back of the piece, and be careful how you do that--you don't want a Sharpie pen bleeding through to your surface! You could do it separately and then somehow attach it to the back.

How valuable is a certificate from a community college?
Q. I already recieved my undergrad degree in a field I'm no longer interested in pursuing. I'm currently employed as an administrative assistant, but looking to further my career. I've found a program at a community college that would allow me to obtain a certificate in Marketing. Would this hold enough weight to help me start a career in Marketing?

A. A certificate in Marketing is better than having a degree in microbiology and applying for a Marketing job. On most job applications, there is a field for Certifications, etc., so it must have value to most companies. Go for it. Get the best GPA you can and shop yourself to a company that is willing to give you an intro level job. Work your butt off and prove yourself. You can always get a degree later.

How do I file for a birth-certificate replacement when the Air-force base I was born in is now a college?
Q. Is a birth-certificate from the Military different from the states? Is there a different form to fill out for replacement than State website? I have a copy of my social and Driver's License. My birth-certificate is lost. Hopefully destroyed in the process.
Asked by Ken - Fri Jan 23 01:35:17 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The military has the same reporting requirements as civilian hospitals. The State website would work just fine, but if you'd rather talk to a person, you need to contact the Office of Vital Statistics in the county in which you were born. Even just calling the County Courthouse will get you transferred to the right office. They'll charge you a small fee...maybe $5 or $10 for a certified copy and they'll mail it to you.

Q. Is a birth-certificate from the Military different from the states? Is there a different form to fill out for replacement than State website? I have a copy of my social and Driver's License. My birth-certificate is lost. Hopefully destroyed in the process.

How important is a certificate to work as a paralegal? Is experience more important?
Q. I have five years experience as a litigation paralegal. Lately, I am considering entering a program for a CLA certificate. Will this help in landing a better-paying job? Do some firms avoid non-certified paralegals?

A. For a litigation paralegal, certification matters more than for paralegals in other specialties. A certificate will help more in some states, and there are some law firms and companies which will only hire those with a certificate valid in that state. Generally speaking, however, experience matters more than just a certificate for most types of paralegal positions.

How is the doctor's certificate required by some airlines to fly while pregnant?
Q. What are the contents of that certificate?

A. The change in air pressure when flying could induce labor or a miscarriage. They are just covering their liability.

Something to prove a death other than death certificate?
Q. My family was planning a trip to Italy and we have the plane tickets purchased and everything. However, my dad passed away suddenly and now the airlines need a death certificate to prove my dad has passed away. But death certificates take forever to be processed, and we leave for Italy at Christmastime. We have tried asking everywhere, including the airlines and everyone just seems too hard to get a hold of. Wonder if anyone knows anything else.

A. It depends on the airline, but you might want to see if they'll accept an official letter from the funeral home you used for your Dad (and then get one). I do know an obituary is usually not enough. Please accept my condolences on the loss of your father.
